The new 2009 Ultra High Relief Gold Double Eagle coin which was originally designed by Augustus Saint Gaudens is finally up for order. The release of this long sought after gold coin by the US Mint on January 22, 2009 has brought excitement to gold coin collectors, enthusiasts and investors from all around the world. As anticipated by many, orders began to pour in from every inch of the world ever since the Ultra High Relief Gold Double Eagle coin making its debut.

There was a slight redesign being done on this stunning gold coin to reflect year 2009 such as the addition of four stars to represent the current 50 states and the inscription "In God We Trust," which was not on the 1907 version. The obverse of the coin carries the current date of 2009, expressed in Roman Numerals "MMIX". Additionally, a small border was added for a more consistent edge. The 2009 coin will be made of 24-karat gold. Pure 24-karat gold is much more malleable than 22-karat or 90% gold coins, making it better material for striking the ultra high relief. Even with the slight changes, the design on the coins remain as beautiful and stunning as St Gaudens had originally intended.

Sales continued throughout the 2009, with of course adjustments made to the price due to the rising of gold value. The ordering limit was also raised and eventually lifted completely. Sales of the 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle officially ended on December 31, 2009 but the circulation of these coins can be seen at online auction sites.
